Art and Art Appreciation... and Jimmy the Greek.

I am paying dearly for my excursion the other night. I am absolutely exhausted. Running around after 3 year olds all day certainly does not help my situation.
I have yet to finish homework that needs to be done for tomorrow, call home to make arrangements for Thanksgiving weekend, and start to pack some stuff to go. My bed is calling my name from around the corner and down the hall.

I went to the National Art Gallery with a friend this evening. It was a nice outing, I just wish I wouldn't have been so tired. The contemporary exhibits were of particular interest to us. A woman lying on a bed yelling, or "vocalising" if you will, for hours on end was the highlight I think.
I realized something this evening too. A few things, actually.
I wish people didn't put down some types of art so much. Like Barnett Newman, a Canadian artist. His paintings mostly consist of about 3 or 4 stripes of alternating colors down a canvas. (Left is "Voice of Fire". This things is HUGE, like 40 feet tall or something.) There are others whose paintings consist of pretty much the same, I just cannot recall their names. Looking at these painting, you can see that it must have been somewhat of a tedious job tmeasure and tape and paint it so perfectly. If you look at them, they look almost flawless. And in the words of my dear friend, if you look at the colors and how they are placed beside one another, it is clear to see that the painter did not lack artistic vision; the colors are juxtaposed just so to create an optical work-out, so to speak.
I just wish people would think about things like this before brushing it off.
I also realized that whoever I end up with someday will have to like doing that sort of thing; going to galleries and museums. Or if he doesn't particularily like it, he should appreciate the fact that I myself appreciate those sorts of things.

I also realized that Greek cuisine contains volatile amounts of garlic.

So, that's all for tonight. Need to finish some homework and the hit the sack.
